GEORGIA VISION 2020

In 2016 eye care organizations came together to acknowledge the growing burden of vision impairment and the need to address gaps in care. Together they are working to educate people about the need for eye exams and the devastating reality that diabetes and glaucoma may be damaging your eyes for years before you know it and thus the importance of regular eye exams.

VISION 2020: THE RIGHT TO SIGHT

In 1999 research found that with the growing and aging population we were on track to have 80 million people blind worldwide by the year 2020 and a shocking 80% of that blindness could have been avoided. Thus¬†Vision 2020: The Right to Sight was born. Vision 2020 is an international initiative run by the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness that sought to promote a “world where nobody is needlessly visually impaired and where those with unavoidable vision loss can achieve their full potential.
